Confidence Building for Women (a women only course)

Whatever your circumstances, or experience using on-line technology, this friendly, women-only course, will help you to build your confidence and social skills as we explore practical and positive ways to improve everyday life'. One main aim of the course, is to explain how to overcome many of the 'barriers' that get in the way of having a confident sense of self,including concerns about using the technology that can help you to stay in touch with others and use services. Also, as you come to understand the reasons why -particularly for women- some social interactions can leave you feeling not OK, you will discover it is possible to make changes and see yourself and others in a different light. You will learn some straightforward ways to 'manage' difficult or tricky situations that for women can be very damaging to self-esteem and sense of well-being. Join us then, and take the opportunity to learn how to make effective plans and look forward to the future as a more confident 'you'!

Course aim

This short, informal course is designed for women to learn safely, in a women only on-line class, how to build confidence and improve social skills,make practical and positive changes to their everyday lives as active participants in society.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre
  • Although this course is not to be held in Women's Centre - it is designed for women students who would normally rely on a safe space to learn and take first steps towards making positive changes in their lives.Women of all ages, backgrounds etc. use such an opportunity to enterwork /further study

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify what makes some social situations difficult to cope with and how to deal with them
  • Improve your social skills based on a knowledge of what is good communication and how it works and can work for you
  • Describe yourself in the roles you play as a woman and to be confident to practise some of the skills learnt when dealing with everyday life situations
  • Plan and make happen, some of the practical and positive changes you would like to make in your life
  • Explore your rights and investigate how you can claim them when eg at work, socially or personally to improve your mental well-being

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Your tutor will provide written, text and audio feedback recorded in WEA Canvas, WEA’s digital learning platform.
  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

As a registered charity, and to meet our funders’ requirements, we need to check a few things with you before you enrol. Please check the details below to ensure you meet the basic eligibility critiera:

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2020
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
