If you are a beginner and need help getting started on using a computer, or need to improve your current basic computing skills then explore our Excel Skills Level 1 course to get you started on your journey. This is a non-accredited course and a practical and flexible way of improving your ICT skills using Microsoft Office.

Course aim

The course aims are for the learners to gain confidence using the Microsoft Excel application to create spreadsheets.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Confidently switch on and access the learning platform, Canvas.
  • Understand how to create a spreadsheet and enter text and numbers.
  • Gain the skills to apply formulas (sum, average, max, min) to spreadsheets.
  • Gain the skills to format and manipulate data within a spreadsheet.
  • Have learnt about the different types of charts (pie, column) and when to use them.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
