You will have the opportunity to explore diverse approaches and techniques in acrylic painting, with the focus on Summer themes. We will be taking inspiration from the work of contemporary and classical artists throughout, and any other suggestions of subjects and techniques will be welcome. Most importantly relax, enjoy, and have fun.
Course aim
This short course on painting with acrylics is for anyone to enjoy, whether you are a complete beginner, or more experienced and wanting to improve your skills.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.

- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Understand how to mix acrylic paint to the right consistency to work with.
- Understand how to mix a variety of colours, with an understanding of the colour wheel.
- Experience preparing and working with suitable surfaces, to achieve the best results.
- Gain confidence to share your work and ideas with other members of the group.
- Create at least one finished painting which shows some improvement.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

- You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas. - You will need a basic set of acrylic paints, brushes, a palette and surfaces to work on. This will be explained in more detail shortly before the course starts.
