Writing Workshop - Try a Villanelle

The last Friday poetry workshop: try a villanelle. You can come to one of these sessions or more, they're on the last Friday of the month. We'll talk about villanelles and read a few; then you can start writing one.

Course aim

Describe and read examples of villanelles, look at their structure and start to write one.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
  • This is a live lecture delivered by a subject specialist in an online webinar video learning platform. You will need to be able to access the internet on a device with speakers or earphones.   • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • know something about how villanelles work.
  • recognise a villanelle when I'm reading poems
  • start writing a villanelle

How will I be taught?

  • This is a one-off session in a series.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need some A4 paper and a pencil or pen

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
