This course provides an introduction to the wonderful world of European Folk Art which is steeped in tradition and crosses cultures. Have fun using this wonderful, highly decorative and colourful imagery as inspiration for a variety of craft activities including a pop-up card, a 'colourful and creative' wall decoration and a 3D piece of artwork. Discover some of the intriguing stories and traditions associated with Folk Art. The course will include investigating images and associated customs from a variety of cultures. Beginners and experienced crafters all welcome.
Course aim
To provide an introduction to the fascinating and creative subject of Folk Art which is steeped in cultural tradition, and to use this tradition as inspiration for a variety of craft activities
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

- This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Have an overview of the Folk Art Tradition
- Know how to create a Folk Art style 'pop-up' card
- Create a piece of 3D artwork inspired by vintage Folk Art
- Produce a 'colourful and creative' wall decoration inspired by traditions from the past
- Know where to access resources
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.
