Yoga for Pregnancy

The course will work with a range of movements suitable both for pregnancy and labour. Each session will be adapted to the needs of the individual. The tutor is able to work with a wide range of aches and pains that can occur in pregnancy including: SPD (Symphysis pubis dysfunction)/ pelvis instability; backache, cramp etc. as well as anxiety, stress and tension.

Course aim

We will work on yoga movements suitable for pregnancy as well as yoga movements for labour. The role of the breath and low sound will be integral to the course. Each session will finish with a short mindfulness breathing meditation for pregnancy.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • The courser is suitable for women from 15 weeks of pregnancy.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand a range of yoga movements suitable for pregnancy.
  • Understand a range of yoga movements suitable for labour.
  • Understand the breath and sound suitable for both pregnancy and labour.
  • Understand a range of birthing positions;
  • Understand the mindfulness breathing meditation for pregnancy.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • As this is an online course it would be good if you had available: -a small stool -a birthing ball -a chair -mat or towel -cushions or pillows
