The course will take 5 pivotal moments in history such as the battle of Hastings and the American War of Independence, and explore what would have been likely to have happened if events had taken a different course. Exploring the significance of the event at the time and its legacy.
Course aim
To explore 5 significant events in history using a 'virtual history' approach to explore how possible different outcomes would have affected subsequent events.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Discuss the pros and cons of 'virtual history' and consider alternative outcomes to important historical events
- To be able to describe the significance of Henry VIII's failure to secure an annulment of his marriage to Anne Boleyn
- To be able to describe the situation immediately prior to the American war of Independence
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
