This will be a fun and enjoyable gardening course. You will be able to take part in gardening activities in class such as planting, potting and growing your own flowers. You will learn about different aspects of gardening as well, and read information about how to garden and what to grow. We will have access to an outdoor space to grow things in and you will be able to take some bulbs and seeds home to grow yourself.
Course aim
This course provides an overview of simple gardening and enables students to begin to learn about how to garden and grow plants.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is for improvers
- This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Grow a plant from seed and plant out bulbs.
- Know which plants in the garden are safe to eat and which aren't.
- Understand how to make compost.
- Describe how and why gardening is good for my health and wellbeing.
- Record my progress and learning in Canvas.
How will I be taught?
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- You may be asked to take some plants/seeds home and grow them at home in pots. Pots and instructions will be provided.
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
What else do I need to know?
- Please bring pen, paper and gardening gloves.
