Explore simple printmaking techniques such as block printing, collagraph and direct printing to design and make a range of unique greeting cards, gift tags and gift-wrap. Students will learn through step-by-step demonstration and encouraged to develop creative skills through personal response. Students will be encouraged to share their experiments and have fun.

Course aim

Enjoy learning creative skills at a relaxed and friendly pace. An introductory course to printmaking techniques that you can try at home. Use a range of everyday tools and simple processes to make stunning hand-printed cards and gift-wrap and tags.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn simple printmaking techniques, using everyday materials, to decorate cards, and/or gift wrap and tags.
  • Explore a range of printmaking techniques such as direct printing, block printing and collagraph, to create unique designs and patterns.
  • Explore design elements - texture, shape, layout - in creating single-image prints and repeat pattern.
  • Build confidence in creative work by exploring design & craft techniques / processes and sharing ideas with others.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. If you want to understand more about our digital learning platform please visit:
  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
