WEA Create - Introduction to Creative Craft and Employability Skills

This course has been created for students who wish to learn new skills in this introduction to Creative Crafts. Students will be introduced to a variety of resources, tools and equipment needed for each craft subject along with health and safety aspects of using the tools and equipment.Students will learn how to work alonside fellow students and build confidence skills as they work together. Students will learn how to be methodical and organised and work to a plan.The group will discuss stress that builds up when trying to finish work to a deadline. Students will produce at least one project throughout the course and will learn some problem solving skills thoughout the course..

Course aim

To provide students with the practical skills and confidence needed to persue a variety of creative crafts and look at how the craft industry is a growing trend.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • identify tools, equipment and resources for a variety of crafts
  • produce a methodical and organised work plan
  • show initiative and self motivation
  • listen and relate to other people and be able to act upon key information
  • use and read data to produce a project

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
