Creative Crafts and Employability - improvers

The course will enable you to further develop your craft skills and techniques in one or more craft mediums. You will explore past and present craft work to inspire your own development. You will create craft items for a variety of uses. You will research and design a craft piece, plan it, construct it and evaluate it to improve the end product. You will explore the wider crafting community and how you can participate within it.

Course aim

To further develop students’ craft making skills including research, design, planning and evaluation

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • Some prior crafting experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Research the work of some contemporary or past craftspeople to inform and inspire my own craft creations.
  • Plan, design and create a craft item using a range of techniques
  • Practise 5 craft techniques . List techniques if appropriate.
  • Present and describe some or all of my craft work, listening to feedback and contributing to the feedback of others.
  • Research the local and national community of crafters to understand opportunities for participation

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Your tutor will ensure you are making progress towards your learning goals through a range of methods appropriate to you and the course

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • There may be a small charge for some items

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
