This course will build on previous knowledge to develop and expand skills in ICT, focusing on information management, identity management and sharing information within working environment

Course aim

Utilizing your computer skills and knowledge to manage and share documents in different formats, use online transactional services, use different modes of online communication, enter, edit information on worksheet and manage online identity.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use different document formats such as PDF to make it easier to share documents with colleagues.
  • Use online transactional services including online shopping, finance (e.g. online banking), utilities (e.g. gas, electricity, water), government services (paying council tax online, booking a doctor’s appointment, applying for benefits) media (e.g. streaming services) etc.
  • 3. Know and understand terminology and concepts relating to entering and editing information in a worksheet, formatting using row and column size adjustment, cell borders and data types (including formatting currency, percentages, and number of decimal places for numeric data)
  • Identify and use appropriate modes of online communication for a range of contexts and audiences.
  • Managing online identity including using an appropriate online name and online and email address, understanding that online activities leave traces, unsubscribing from e-mail list and deleting unwanted social media accounts and old posts.

How will I be taught?

  • Most of your learning will take place in your class, but one or two sessions will be online using WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas, working by yourself or engaging with other students.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a digital portfolio of your work on WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas.
  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
