Join our progressive group of Learner Artists learning sound drawing & painting skills in a variety of media.such as pencils,graphite sticks,charcoal,coloured pencils,leading to Water colours,pen & ink,acrylics,oils,& pastels.Theory & observational drawing $ sketching for mainly beginners,will focus on Object & Still-Life;Portrait & Figure,,Advanced & Improver students will be tutored individually or in small groups working on their own chosen projects.

Course aim

Learn sound Drawing & Painting skills in a variety of chosen media,leadingto the development of greater visual awareness,creativity,& to a worthwhile & satisfying hobbyor pastime.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw and paint with greater skill & confidence.
  • Develop personal ideas through media of choice.
  • Master some drawing skills of light and shade on observed natural and man made subjects.
  • Demonstrate a greater appreciation of proportion and scale.
  • Discover the therapeutic values in doing art.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • make use of our resource library of art books & visual aids.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • Homework projects to enhance progress will be encouraged.

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A lightweight A3 Drawing board,A3 cartridge drawing pad,a selection of B & H drawing pencils & graphite stick,Putty rubber,& .for those advanced & Improver students,the appropriate art materials of choice..

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Enthusiasm to be Creative & learn drawing & painting skills.including some experimentation with materials & techniques

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
