Buying and Selling Online (East Surrey)

This online course will provide participants with confidence when buying goods and services online. It will also give them the skill to advertise items for sale online to ensure they have the best chance of selling them. Participants will use a number of different websites including Gumtree and eBay.

Working in partnership with East Surrey College this course is for people living in East Surrey (Tandridge, Banstead, Epsom and Ewell and Mole Valley)

Course aim

This online course is suitable for those with limited or no experience in buying and selling goods and services on the internet.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • You will need to be able to follow links to join our WEA live video learning platform: WEA Zoom. If you’d like to understand more about our video learning platform, Zoom please visit: http://bit.ly/WEAonline and http://bit.ly/ZoomSpec
  • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
  • It would be helpful if you had a Gumtree and eBay account, both take just a few minutes to set up. Please bring your ID and password to the sessions. It would also be helpful if you have access to a camera or camera phone.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a comparison website to browse and get the best price
  • Explain how PayPal works
  • Write an advertisement for an item which is for sale
  • Advertise an item for sale online

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).
