Dealing with Low Mood and Anxiety (East Surrey Course)

This course will explain what low mood, anxiety and stress are, examine possible causes and identify common symptoms. It will also address the impact that 'lockdown' can have on our mental health and discuss positive action that can be taken to help manage this difficult time. It will provide students with some practical strategies, many of which can be practiced during the sessions in a safe environment.

This course is running in partnership with East Surrey College, this course is available only to those living in the following council areas: Epsom & Ewell, Mole Valley, Tandridge, Reigate & Banstead

Course aim

This online course is suitable for anyone who has experienced low mood, stress or anxiety and would like some strategies to help manage them.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas. By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain what low mood, anxiety and stress are.
  • Identify at least 4 symptoms of low mood, stress and anxiety.
  • Recognise at least 3 factors which can cause low mood, stress and anxiety.
  • Practice at least 3 strategies to manage low mood, stress and anxiety.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a digital portfolio of your work on WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas.
  • The tutor will also keep records from session discussions in Chat and Whiteboard in Zoom and make this available after the course.

What else do I need to know?

  • What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. If you’d like to understand more Zoom please visit: http://bit.ly/ZoomSpec
  • You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).
