This course is designed to help you identify skills, qualities and attitudes needed for learning and work. You will explore positive and appropriate behaviour for learning and work. You will be guided to identify your personal strengths and your areas for development for the future. You will be supported to create goals that are actionable and achievable for your future progress.

Course aim

To help students to identify their transferable skills and the things to consider when deciding which jobs to apply for.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for anyone who is lacking in confidence about their abilities and the skills and qualities they have to offer in the workplace. The course will help you to begin to realise and unlock your potential.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify at least 2 transferable skills you already have
  • Identify at least 2 areas for development for your future progress
  • Recognise 3 important things to consider when looking for the right job for you
  • Create at least 2 actionable goals to help you move forward after this course

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Activities may include tutor presentation, small group work, working in pairs, class discussions, and short tasks. After the course, it will be necessary to take action on your learning points to support your own development.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Your tutor will provide handouts and any other practical materials used in the session although you may want to bring a notepad and pen for taking notes. Your tutor will suggest sources of additional information where relevant.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
