Assertiveness and Managing Difficult Conversations and Situations

Participants will identify the causes of a range of difficult situations and conversations. They will learn about different types of behaviour and practice using assertive behaviour in a safe and comfortable environment. The course will cover different strategies for managing difficult behaviour and difficult situations.

Course aim

This course will enable participants to identify different types of behaviour and allow the opportunity to practice assertiveness in difficult situations or during difficult conversations.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify the cause of at least 2 difficult situations.
  • Recognise the characteristics of passive, aggressive and passive aggressive behaviour.
  • Use assertive language during at least one difficult conversation.
  • Discuss at least 3 strategies for managing difficult situations and conversations

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Nothing else is needed
