This workshop provides an introduction to behaviour strategies for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. It looks at the different things that trigger and sustain behaviour and using real life examples and experiences explains different strategies to support communication and positive behaviour. Take home materials and links to sources for further information & assistance will be provided and a certificate to validate attendance is also available.

Course aim
For parents or those who work with children with SEND, this workshop provides an insight into what triggers behavioural issues and the strategies that really help. Delivered by an autism mum who is also an Occupational Therapist by training.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Explain the function, triggers and sustainers of unhelpful behaviour in children with SEND.
- Explain and use strategies to record and understand the triggers for unhelpful behaviour.
- Explain and use strategies to support communication and foster constructive behaviour in children with SEND.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. - The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- Your tutor will provide written, text and audio feedback recorded in WEA Canvas, WEA’s digital learning platform.
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
- It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
