Seated Exercise for Body and Brain

The course will enable attendees to perform a range of chair exercises under guidance from the tutor. They will learn how to coordinate the upper and lower body through exercise, practice warm up and cool down stretches and a head to toe workout. Attendees will use balls, resistance bands and light weights to strengthen muscles. There will also be the opportunity to engage in a group game to aid memory. The session will be conducted to music and in a fun and safe environment.

Course aim

The purpose of this taster course is to provide participants with the ability to perform chair exercises in a safe and comfortable environment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • Participants will be required to complete a short medical form to ensure that any pre existing conditions will not be aggravated by the exercises.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform at least one coordination exercise.
  • Undertake at least one warm up stretch.
  • Participate in a head to toe guided workout.
  • Use a resistance band to strengthen at least one part of the body.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
