Open to all levels this course provides the support and opportunity to develop and explore personal creativity. The tutor will demonstrate an arts and crafts activity and then support participants to do the activity themselves. Participants will be shown techniques and have time to build confidence in using them. Ideas will be suggested but participants will also be welcome to choose their own.

Course aim

To take part in creative arts and crafts activity for personal interest, relaxation, leisure, well-being and social interaction.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Experience the use of at least one art and crafts material.
  • Try at least one art and crafts technique; with tutor support if needed.
  • Use ideas suggested by the tutor; or explore personal ideas if preferred.
  • Take part in creative activity within a group setting.
  • Discuss arts and crafts activities with the tutor.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It is also recommended that you bring an apron or clothes that you do not mind getting messy (please note that not all arts and crafts materials wash out).

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Development and discovery of new art and crafts materials and techniques. Development of art and crafts based leisure activity.
