Art and Design: Using Colour

The course is concerned with using colour in drawings, paintings and in design. You will learn how to use colour as an inspiration and how to mix colour to create your own personal drawings and paintings.You will also take inspiration from different cultures and artists.

Course aim

The emphasis of the course is learn about colour and how to use colour in drawings, paintings and design.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Find colour as inspiration from nature, architecture ,other artists work and by looking at different cultures.
  • Mix colours with ink and paint.
  • Understand some colour theory and use in your own art work.
  • Know which materials and tools to use.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • You are encouraged to bring your own paints, watercolour paper and a sketchbook.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
