Art and Design: Drawing and Mixed Media

The course is structured to learn the many techniques and tips used to create drawings from life and the imagination. You will be introduced to drawing materials and tools and then encouraged to develop personal drawings. The course will also include techniques to create mixed media drawings.

Course aim

Taking steps in practical Art and Design through learning about observational drawing and how to create mixed media drawings.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use drawing materials and tools.
  • Take inspiration to create personal drawings from life or the imagination.
  • Look at drawings by other Artists and Cultures.
  • Develop a set of drawings showing a range of drawing skills.
  • Understand about Mixed Media in drawing and how incorporate techniques into your own drawings.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • You are encouraged to bring a sketchbook and some drawing materials such as a range of pencils, charcoal and an assortment of papers.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
