Drama (Reaching Out)

This course aims to bring people together in an inclusive, enjoyable drama experience, encouraging positive engagement, creativity and building confidence. We will produce performances made up of acting through movement, songs and scenes adapting to the strengthens of the individuals and aiming to build upon those strengthens. We will creatively tell stories to our audience using props and costumes, but most importantly our physicality, voices and expressions. We will have lots of fun and aim to create performances we are proud of, in a supportive environment.

Course aim

This course aims to bring people together in an inclusive, enjoyable experience of doing drama collectively, encouraging positive engagement, creativity and building confidence.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform in front of an audience
  • Think creatively about how to express a story, emotions and characters.
  • Work within a team to create a performance
  • Portray a character within a story
  • Be more confident to share my ideas with a group setting

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
