As a mixed class there is a variety of ability and lots of diverse ideas about what makes a good painting. The tutor will find individual advice and help for every individual. If you are truly a beginner there will be a 'starter course' which you can follow to begin with. There is an aim to have fun and make friends too.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • It is important that you are open to other people in the class. Also be open to suggestions from the tutor. Just looking at your own work you will focus on its short comings and get frustrated. I find that through discussion of others and sharing difficulties you will get more from the class.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
