Puccini and his Operas

Ref: C3744575

Despite having written only 12 operas, 3 of which were short one-Act works, Giacomo Puccini has consistently been one of the most performed opera composers, ranking behind only Verdi and Mozart, both of whom have more than 20 operas to their name. Puccini was a leading exponent of the 'verismo' style of opera, which was in vogue around the turn of the 19th century. Puccini was a flamboyant character and enjoyed a lifestyle which reflected his great success as an opera composer. As well as presenting excerpts from all his works, this course will also present the key events and people in his life.

Course aim

Giacomo Puccini composed many popular operas, with works such as La Bohème and Madama Butterfly consistently in the top ten most performed operas. This course will present excerpts from all his works, along with the key events and people in his life.
