New Testament Studies: St Mark's Gospel

Ref: C3744548

This is one of the fundamental source documents of the Christian church, and one which has an authority for its readers. We will read it in this light, seeing whether it can influence our own way of thinking and acting. The tutor will introduce different topics. The class sits in a circle and is encouraged to ask questions and give comments. Group discussion is welcomed, and varieties of opinion emerge.

Course aim

We will be looking at the text of this, the first of the Gospels to be written, to examine what it meant to its original readers and what meaning it has for us today. We will consider questions of authorship, style and date.
