Day School: Impressionism

Ref: C3744546

Everyone knows the work of the Impressionists, from Monet's waterlilies to Degas' ballerinas, but not many really understand the context in which these pictures were made or the bigger ideas that lay behind them. In this short course we will endeavour to better understand what this group of young and ambitious French painters were trying to achieve with their brightly coloured studies of modern Parisian life and landscape. We will learn about their great mentor, Edouard Manet and look at some of the varied ways in which they tried to examine modern life in a modern way.
