Focus on Faces: An Investigation of Portraiture

Ref: C3744489

Portraits are endlessly familiar and make a huge contribution to the history of art. This course will introduce students to the history of the portrait from the classical period to the present day. We will investigate the way painters and sculptors have explored their sitters from the warts and all approach of the Romans, through those who sought to flatter their wealthy and important clients, to those who explored their own features. Major artists to be discovered include Titian, Rembrandt, Bernini, Van Dyck, Sargent, Van Gogh and Picasso.
