Learn about the artists and exhibitions that will take Hastings Contemporary into its next phase of regeneration. Modern and Contemporary artists will be explored and a chance to discuss and have conversations around these subjects will take place.

Course aim

The Jerwood Gallery will be known as Hastings Contemporary from June 2019, they begin their reorganisation with Tal R: eventually all museums will be ships. For the first week we will be examining this exhibition and then move on to the new shows

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Subject knowledge of contemporary and modern art
  • Knowledge of specific artists that Hastings contemporary will be exhibiting
  • Discussions involving contemporary and modern artists

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
