The course is about getting started with the craft of creative knotting called macrame. You will be introduced to the techniques, tools and materials used to make hanging pot holders, wall hangings and fun ideas such as jewellery and and home decor items.

Course aim

To understand the steps involved to get started in Macrame.To get to grips with the creative knotting techniques and to know which tools and materials to use.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand about Macrame materials and tools.
  • Know about the basic macrame knots used to create personal projects.
  • Work independently to complete Macrame projects from patterns and diagrams.
  • Understand the history and origins of creative knotting.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • The tutor will inform you about which materials to bring and where to get them from.You will need a notebook, pen and a folder to keep notes and materials in.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
