Greek Civilisation, Language and Culture

Ref: C3744404

Greek culture has influenced the literature, philosophy, science, and even politics of the modern world. The Greek language has contributed a great deal to modern Western languages, and ultimately their alphabets derive from the Greek script. It is also perhaps the oldest recorded language still in daily use. This course will introduce you to the culture and language of Greece, mainly of the classical period (which has had the greatest influence on Western culture), but not neglecting later developments. You will also be encouraged to suggest particular topics relevant to the main subject, which so far as is possible will be fitted into the course.
