Taking the imagery from traditional Japanese scrolls as an inspiration to paint and draw a variety of subjects using ink and watercolour . To include : looking at how to simplify images, using texture and pattern, and experimenting with different papers .

Course aim

Painting and drawing a variety of subjects in ink and watercolour using the imagery from traditional Japanese scrolls as an inspiration.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Choose the best paper for my particular image
  • Use mark making to draw simple shapes
  • Simplify images
  • Identify the different uses for wet or dry brush marks

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Basic materials and equipment are provided . Please wear an apron or old clothes .
