Day School: Henri Matisse - Towards a Decorative Aesthetic

Ref: C3744392

From Fauvism in 1905 to the cut-outs in the early 1950s, Matisse never ceased to renew his art. Beyond this diversity, his interest in the expressive potential of lines and colours always dominated his work. Matisse is famous for his use of bright colours and arabesques and to viewers, his paintings are joyful and decorative. But for the artist, their realisation was far from easy and relied on an assiduous and doubt-ridden creative process. During this day-school we will follow Matisse's evolution through the successive periods. We will also speak about his personality. We will discover a great artist, but also a touching man, for whom art was a form of therapy.
