Seminar: Women in Art

Ref: C3744390

The potential in the subject "Women in Art" is tremendous, ranging from the ancient to modern world in a variety of relevant areas. There will be a historical chronological progression. As we move from ancient to modern, conventions change and artists begin to sign their works, and we will see movement from a wide-world view to a personal world. Along the way we will look at the work of specific female artists despite the domination of men, women who changed the world- including some surprise entries, famous women in history, and the work of modern artists.

Course aim

This is a partly whimsical, partly serious day, looking at the subject from ancient to modern times. We will consider images of women sometimes famous, sometimes humorous, perhaps dramatic and often by women artists.
