Day School: Drawing with Charcoal

With an aim of teaching essential drawing skills in charcoal, the session will include working from photographs and a still life. Suitable for complete beginners and those who would like to gain more confidence. Basic materials and equipment will be provided.

Course aim

To provide the opportunity to experiment with the essential skills for drawing in charcoal

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • No experience required

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use marks to copy texture and pattern.
  • Use charcoal to reproduce light and dark tones .
  • Use a putty rubber as a drawing tool

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Basic materials and equipment will be provided . Please wear an apron or old clothes
