Henry II (1154-1189) was one of England's greatest kings and his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, was one of the most outstanding women of her age. The couple's often turbulent marriage resulted in the birth of eight children including one son who was crowned in his father's lifetime, two sons who subsequently ruled as Kings of England and also Queens of both Castile and Sicily. The royal grandchildren included a Holy Roman Emperor and Queens of Denmark, Portugal, France and Aragon. We will examine the history of King Henry's family and the important role it played in both English and European History.
