Breaking the Boundaries: American Art of the 20th century

Ref: C3744374

In this short course we will investigate the major American artists of the 20th century with a particular emphasis on those who contributed to the rapid development of modernism in art in this period. Art movements such as the Aschan school and regionalism will be explored and their influence on later modern experiments will be evaluated. This will include a review of the work of Grant Wood, painter of American Gothic. Edward Hopper's contribution will also be a focus. A major element of the course will be the great modernists of the Abstract Expressionist school, Pop Art and minimalism. Artists featured will include Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Roy Liechtenstein and the later post-modern works of Jeff Koons.
