Branch Event: Women Poets in the 20th century and beyond.

To talk about women poets, leading to a wider discussion about women’s writing generally and looking at the situation today, particularly the vital contribution women have made to the art of poetry in the later 20th and early 21st centuries. This day-school will take Fleur Adcock’s arrival in London in the early 1960s as its starting point. We will also discuss the works of Sharon Olds, Emily Berry, Caroline Bird, Claudia Rankine and Hannah Sullivan.

Course aim

This Branch Event will explore the role of women poets in the 20th and 21st centuries.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss whether female poets write differently from men
  • Recognise the vital contribution women have made to the art of poetry in this period
  • Understand the vital contribution women have made to the art of poetry in the later 20th and early 21st centuries

  • You will take part in a range of different activities with your tutor and the other students in your class
