Day School: The Magic Flute: Mozart's Late Masterpiece

Ref: C3744362

Mozart’s “Magic Flute” is one of his most enduringly popular works, consistently appearing in the top ten most performed operas worldwide. Written shortly before his death, it differs from his earlier operas in its genesis as a “folk opera” in the “singspiel” style and its hidden allusions to Freemasonry, a hot political topic in the Austria of the time. In this study day, we will explore the creation and underlying messages of this masterpiece, as well as glorying in the arias of Papageno and The Queen of the Night.

Course aim
