In this study day we will consider the towering figure of Aristotle. We look at some of the key elements of his thought including his views on language and logic, change and cause and the notion of 'happiness'.

To explore key concepts in Aristotle's thought including language and logic and the notion of 'happiness'

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Evaluate Aristotle's notion of 'happiness'
  • Assess the concepts of language and logic as developed by Aristotle
  • Relate Aristotle to the history and development of western philosophy

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

  • This is the second of a series of study days charting the history and development of western philosophy. In subsequent study days, we will look at the great modern philosophers: Descartes, Hume, Locke, Berkeley, Hobbes and Marx.
