Imperial Rome relied on the sea for much of its trade, from Britain in the west to India in the east. The day-school will look at the ships, the goods they carried, their crews and the remains of harbours and lighthouses.

Course aim

To examine the role of the sea in the trading life of Imperial Rome.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of the sea for Imperial Rome
  • Demonstrate a better understanding of trade during this period
  • Learn about the ships, the goods they carried, their crews and the remains of harbours and lighthouses.

How will I be taught?

  • You will take part in a range of different activities with your tutor and the other students in your class
