Heart of Silk Road: The Art and Architecture of Uzbekistan

Ref: C3744301

Persian rule and the status of an important stop on the Silk Road ensured a rich artistic legacy of mosques, mausoleums, madrasas and caravanserais in Uzbekistan. We shall focus on key monuments such as the Registan and Tamerlaine's Bibi Khanum mosque in Samarkand; Khiva's old city centre and Bukhara' Samanid Mausoleum. The impact of the Soviet era on the capital, Tashkent, will then be studied in relation to its striking modernist architecture.
