This course will look at the architectural character of five towns of historical distinction including York and Canterbury. It will be illustrated with power-point and aim to show how each example is worth a visit and played a part in the nations history.

Course aim

This course will look at five typical English towns of architectural and historical contrast. We will look at what gives the chosen examples a special character, as well as the factors governing their growth and social structure.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • know something of the history and architecture of each town chosen
  • know basic architectural terminology
  • know something of local industry of trade which contributed to their character.
  • know of important persons associated with the town history.

How will I be taught?

  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
