Aspects of Prehistory

Prehistory is shrouded in mystery. What was the purpose of Stonehenge? How did our ancestors view the stars? What are hillforts for? Why did they leave images in caves and on rocks? These and many other fascinating subjects will be explored over a series of five lectures.

Course aim

To explore the mysteries of Prehistory, before there were written records, over a series of five lectures.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify the type and variety of Prehistoric Art
  • Describe current theories on how the ancients viewed the stars
  • Evaluate the current theories on the purpose and development of Stonehenge and its landscape

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
