This course explores the main debates around gender and sexuality in Western as well as non-Western philosophical traditions. In particular the course will focus on the debate around the distinction between gender and biological sex, and the debate around the value and status of sexuality.

Course aim

This course aims to discuss fundamental questions around gender and sexuality by looking at Western and Non-Western philosophical traditions

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify issues underlying the questions of gender and sexuality
  • Present different views on the topics discussed
  • Compare and contrast the philosophical positions explored
  • Describe complex philosophical views on gender and sexuality
  • Apply philosophical learning to contemporary public issues

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
