The Shape of Things to Come: Britain Through the Interwar Years 1919-1939

This history course will look at various aspects of life in Britain in the 1930's and examine these using film, original documents and discussion. It will look at the roots of various issues which still affect life in Britain today.

Course aim

To explore various aspects of inter war Britain using contemporary and modern sources and explore how changes in Britain in this period echo life today.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Review the political, social and economic situation in Britain at the end of the first world war
  • Have an initial appreciation of how domestic life was changing in the period
  • Review the political and social challenges faced by the government and how they reacted to them

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
