What are the things that have really helped you get through lockdown? They might be music, food, books,nature,pets whatever have kept you going. Choose items that represent 3 of these things and arrange as a still life.This session will help you develop your drawing and painting skills particularly composition.

Course aim

To support students to create and draw or paint an original still life group that reflects their experience of lockdown. To give students an introduction to taking part in online art sessions.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create my own still life arrangements at home
  • Plan a drawing thinking about scale, perspective and composition.
  • Draw or paint your original still life representing your experience of lockdown

How will I be taught?

  • You will need to select your 3 objects in advance of the session

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. If you’d like to understand more Zoom please visit: http://bit.ly/ZoomSpec
  • You will need to use your own materials but can work in any medium you have at home. You will need to have your 3 objects ready before the session to create your still life

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • This is a one-off 2 hour session that will lead in to further online art courses in Sept 2020
