Italian Cuisine Taster

A hands-on online workshop that will give you the opportunity to start exploring the Italian cuisine and culture. In this taster session you will learn how to cook a traditional Italian dish, following step by step instruction from our expert Italian tutor. Then, if you wish to really learn and practice with some traditional Italian dishes, you can enrol in the Italian Cuisine course. To take actively part in this taster session you will need (doses for 4 portions): - 400g of tinned chickpeas - 1 onion - 1 carrot - 1 stick of celery - 100g of thin sliced bacon (or pork belly) – not compulsory - 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, plus a drizzle at the end - 1 sprig of rosemary, needles picked and roughly chopped (or dried rosemary) - 200g of pasta, small shapes such as ditalini or macaroni - sea/rock salt - freshly ground black pepper A chopping board, a kitchen knife (to chop onion, carrot and celery), a medium size saucepan/pot.

Course aim

This 90 minute taster, run by a native Italian speaker, will be an interactive and engaging session and will give you a flavour of what you will be learning during the Italian Cuisine course (9 hours).

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Impress my friends and family by cooking a traditional Italian dish
  • Describe a few aspects of the Italian cuisine
  • Explain how to transfer the skills learned to other recipes

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.
