A safe and effective gentle exercise course focusing on health and functional fitness. Each week will contain a top to toe warm up, aerobic routines, strength exercises with resistance bands or exercise equipment, line dancing, adapted tai chi and a cool down which includes stretching and relaxation. Alternatives and adaptions will be offered to ensure everyone can participate. Includes information on benefits of exercise, how it can improve health and help with existing conditions. An enjoyable class in a friendly environment.

Course aim

A fun and enjoyable gentle exercise course suitable for all. Exercises to increase fitness levels and improve health and wellbeing through improving balance, co-ordination, strength and reducing stress. Information on the benefits of exercise.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise the need to be physically active throughout life and how this can change due to health related circumstances.
  • Perform aerobic routines, line dances and strength exercises with equipment to improve health and functional fitness, such as balance, co-ordination, mobility, etc.
  • Learn and perform adapted tai chi and relaxation techniques to use both in class at at home to help reduce stress and promote wellbeing.
  • Share and discuss their experience of taking part in physical activity, what they have enjoyed and why and how participating has impacted on them and their health.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Wear appropriate comfortable clothing and footwear. Contact tutor if necessary for more information.
