Course aim

To teach a range of food related skills to students with complex needs

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for students who attend a specific centre only. For more information please call 0300 303 3464

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Choose ingredients suitable to make a dessert containing fruit with support
  • Follow a recipe using vegetables e.g. pasta salad with support
  • Make a hot snack e.g mini pizza using suitable ingredients with support
  • Identify a selection of healthy items from a choice with support
  • Understand basic hygiene in the kitchen with support

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Verbal feedback during practical tasks and on completion of practical work. Verbal question where appropriate

What else do I need to know?

  • Staff or support workers to provide a range of equipment and ingredients

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
